Old Macdonald (had a farm) RB. The theme to Mozart's "Ah Vous J'arai Madame" is a RB within the larger context of a Theme and Variations (you know the tune as Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, which is ternary in the form we sing it now). "The Happy Farmer" from Schumann's Album for the Young is RB (though I don't know if that's "famous" or not). RB is a "small" form and usually seen in shorter piano works, or as part of a larger work's form. It's seen as an important pre-cursor to Sonata Form, and in general, I'd say most people are more familiar with "famous" symphonies that use the larger, Sonata Form, than the smaller RB (though it can be found in things like Haydn). At 66 I have just started studying music. After flying airplanes for 40+ years, it is a real change!. I have found it extremely interesting, challenging, and great fun! Biggest challenge to me at this point is trying to write decent music with only a semester and a half of music theory under my belt. We have yet to get into a detailed study of form, and although I have heard of rounded binary, I wasn't sure if either what it was or what music I could listen to as an example. Thanks again. Bob | |
