An incredibly gifted composer. But, he has made a lot of indifferent music.

I’m not particularly interrested in his works, except for studying craftsmanship.

And, by the way, conducting Mozart is fun, as the music gives plenty of room for musicality.

Regards

I agree. I've never conducted Mozart before but I am leader of a woodwind quartet which we play at weddings and events. We play alot of Mozart with that and we have lots of fun with it and you can be really musical with it.

On regards to his music, I love it. I play it and also study it

Absolutely! playing his chamber music is sublime (wind serenades...) but I do get a little bored lstening to it because it is so strictly classical and can be quite samey.

His melodies are beautiful and I think if he had lived in the romantic era they would have been done better justice. I struggle with his piano music because I feel so restricted from expression and free playing. And it's quite technical... :?

In orchestral music it can be quite fun to play (marriage of figaro!!!) but in general I don't think he quite equalled Beethoven whose music is a joy to both listen to and play.

Mozart is quite a fascinating composer.

He could something then no one else could. But everyone know that.

He's music is so clean too! You can hear any mistake!! No violinist from the II. part can hide a little mistake - its all to be heard!!

Hes my favorite composer, have the FULL collection and a statue above my bed.

My love to mozart

I agree that Mozart was a very gifted composer. But, I also agree that he did compose a lot of indifferent works. I've only conducted Mozart once and I enjoyed it. You can get a little flexible with the music as a conductor. I really love his operas, his middle-late symphonies the most. Although, I kind of pick and choose when it comes to his other works.

Hmm... interesting concept. "I'm Mozart's works, and I don't care. No, I just don't care, at all."

Mozart and I have a history. I used to see him as a composer that reached his peak in his early career and then attempted to develop beyond his ability later. That led to works that lacked the polish or the interest of his earlier works. However, he and I have come to an understanding since I found out that some of his more obscure works actually show creativity. I appreciate what he wrote that is rarely performed or appreciated, and the popular works that he wrote for money lack much of his better creativity and cater to the whims of his time.

Mozart did reach an early peak, however, he continued to grow. Look at the difference in the last symphonies (39,40,41) compared to those immediately preceeding.

Tre reall example of levelling off would be Mendelssohn. Of course, he spend so much time being a journalist that he didn't seem to grow much.

Yeah, I reckon he was quite good at music!!!

Well, he's written some horribly difficult stuff (thinking of the last movement of his oboe quartet (which uses different time signatures per part - that's got to be a first, surely), and his horn concertos (which if I recall correctly, only Dennis Brain played on a valveless instrument).

I agree with Beecham - he wrote exatly the right amount of notes.

Well, he might have written some run-of-the-mill stuff but he hasn't lasted 200+ years for nothing!
