Regaining lost music: Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel

This year I have acquired Fanny's songs for pianofirte, 1836-1837 from A-R Editions, Inc. Although Fanny was a very influential composer and musician, most of her work has been lost in archive since the untimely deaths of both herself and her brother Felix. In view of the sheer quality of this music and that it has its own personal idiom, it is right that it find its way into the core repertoire. The question is, by what process is this to be achieved?

You get a bunch of really famous pianists to play it in all their concerts and record it on CD's and then promote the CD's like crazy.

A typical example of balls starting to roll @ MySpace…

But seriously, if you know any good concert pianists, they’re always on the outlook for something novel.

And if you don’t know them? Send them some samples of what you consider to be the best compositions. Lots of them have homepages, and guess what? They read their guest books…

Good luck!
