Re: A question about some intruments for my new composition

Awesome! I love the arch rondo idea. Maybe the A section could present some material that I could base the ensuing movement off of and the outro could contain material from all the movements.

How do I use the Golden mean? I know what it is, but I don't know it can be applied it to music.

The Golden mean is just a way of sayng that a climax should occur at approx 61 % duration time.

No, not at all. Your climax can occur anywhere - one such place might happen to agree with the sections of the Golden Mean.

But structurally, the Golden Mean has to do with ratios - the proportion of each "part" to each other part and the whole. Usually it is used as a size/length of sections within a movement, or movements within a work.

Sorry for my inaccurate remark, stevel is right, of course. What I wrote is only right in a highly abstract way: As in a theatrical play, the idea is to make a dramathurgical curve where the perceived intensity climaxes about 61 % into the play, so the build-up is somewhat longer than taking it down again. But as, stevel says, this doesn’t necessarily constitute of a literal climax: It’s all about distributing the content in a way that feels natural. (Indeed classical tragedies teem with deaths towards the end, but the height of the drama indeed is felt a little before 2/3 of the piece has passed, i. e. roughly @ the Golden Mean.)
