Exclamation chord progressions.... I'm stuck in the wrong key

Hello friends,

I'm writing a (rather happy) piece in D major and in the middle of a part that's having an excursion to B minor (logical if not obvious) but now I got myself writing a sequence that ended me up in F sharp minor. As I like the sequence very much I don't want to take it out, but question now is: How the heck do I get back to D major as I really want to end it in the key that I started it.
I'v been wrestling with chord progressions and can get myself to A major but never to D major without sounding forced.

Who can suggest me a good chord progrssion?

Thanks for a quick reply... my inspiration is stuck because of this....

Peter

Sans melody, it's not obvious. There are lots of paths. You could just reverse how you got there.

f#, F#7, b, e, A7 ,D is a short way. Others:
f#, b, E7, A7, D
f#, F#7, B7, E7, A7, D
Any cycle of fifths will work; you can change the mode of any of the chords.
f#, e, A7, D
f#, A7, D
f#, f#0, a0, A7, D

f#, F, e, Eb, D (A bit impressionistic)

f#, D directly over a bass scale passage(or under a soprano)

Re: chord progressions.... I'm stuck in the wrong key

Thanks ttw,

I tried several options and you got me some new ideas.

This is what I put in now. in two sentences 4 bars each:

f# --> e --> D --> c#

f# --> e --> G --> A ------> D

The e minor is a bit unusual I guess but I wanted to preserve the rather sad mood it having before this passage to the happy D major theme again.

kind regards,

Peter

I believe this happens in Beethoven's 2nd symphony. He just lets some strings hold an F# (no harmony) and then bluntly lets others enter with a D (note) below it.

No logic needed.

Victor.
