Rhythm w/ Loose Change

This is a piece I was contracted to write for a video for very hip hotel in Seattle called The Hotel Max. The director of the video wanted a bebop tune for a quartet; tenor sax, bass, drums and piano. A lot of bebop tunes were written to "I Got Rhythm" chord changes. This tune is no exception, hence, the title. A few jazz musicians in Osaka took a liking to the tune and have been playing it around town.

My very talented friend, Aaron Aranita (www.hawaiianjazz.com) played tenor, bass, and piano on this recording. We recorded the drums (played by my friend, Chris Nolin, a free-lance percussionist from Florida) here in Japan.

Nice stuff. It fits the mood perfectly! Theres some excellent playing there too. I studied bebop music for some time last year and you have done an excellent job writing in that style.

Good job

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. Our shop always gets rush jobs, which is one important reason most of my work often doesn't get played by live musicians. In fact, we usually have no time to write a score, but have to plunge head first into a project and hope for the best. If the gig calls for a large ensemble sound, I'll write a sketch once in a while, usually on the train to work, but other than that, we're stuck in MIDI-land. When we've got a relatively big job that gives us enough time and money from a client, we'll spring for live musicians to leaven our samples, but a full live band or orchestra? Forget it. Loose Change was one of the rare times my work gets wholly played by live musicians. It was a blast. Plus, we lucked out when we had one amazingly talented musician who played three instruments in three takes! Thanks again.

Why have you seen it? I thought that it was quite thought provoking.

I have seen it, and I found rather incohesive, No offense on you, but nearly all of the claims don't make any sense. Quite a few of the claims are rather baseless, and the quotes from Donald Rumsfeld are mined quite a bit

No offense on you, that's just my thought on it
