Lightbulb A Life's Journey

Here goes my first post ...

Here's a little song I wrote a month back or so. My wife helped me come up with the name of the song. After she listened to it, she said, "It reminds me of a journey." So, I began to think on that, and I came up with the life part.

I used free soundfonts I downloaded, so the quality may not be the best. Any suggestions in that way would be great.

Also, it ends kind of abruptly, and I am not sure if I like it that way or not. Sometimes Life ends quickly and unexpectedly, so it may fit.

Can you guess the stages of life depicted in the song?

Mark

P.S. - I'm not sure what genre this is, maybe folk instrumental. What does it sound like to you?

I quite like some of the ideas. It sounds a little like an air with variations to me.

Very nice! It could do with some better sound samples, but it's OK. I can't quite pick on the instrumentation, though.

I've heard of an air before, but I don't know what it is exactly.

Oh and thank you for picking up on the variations part. That's kind of my composing style at the moment.

Mark :-)

An air is just a little tune.

^ The most famous air I can think of is "Air" from Bach's Orchestral Suite no.3 or more commonlu known as "Air on a G string".

I think you've came up with an interesting piece in terms of genre, but I would pin it to folk instrumental, but sort of incidental music aswell, that would accompany a RPG game. You've got some nice ideas, but as has been pointed out in earlier posts, the orchestration is hard to distinguish. This is your sound fonts letting you down but if you could post a midi or a score it would be much easier to look at your piece properly.

Do you compose using a notation program or a sequencer such as Sonar/Cubase?

I use Noteworthy Composer to do the composing part (midi), and I have Magix Studio 10 for the mixing, which is okay. I would eventually like to upgrade. I just don't have the big bucks right now.

I'm trying to figure out how to get a good score posted. Noteworthy doesn't have built-in PDF support. I can create a PDF, but it is kinda blurry on certain stafs. I'm still working on it.

I'll try out the one the thread talks about, but I already have a printer PDF as they are describing, and it works fine. I think it is Noteworthy's problem. Even when I print out a score on paper, it's blurry sometimes.

The PDF I can create is readable, though, so I'll post a score next time I get online.
