Strike at the Roots Since there are so few threads in this forum section, I thought I'd pollute it with one of my creations: Strike at the Roots I made this piece sloppily under a compositional block, and I think it's good for banging your head against a wall. It was also an experiment for me, since I hadn't created music in this style before. The song is some hybrid form of instrumental dance and rock, and is quite fast moving. And yes, it's me on the guitar. Impressive don't you think? Any thoughts on the piece, comments and critiques are welcome.

The sound and melodic ideas is kind of like an unpolished version of Gary Numan’s old band Tubeway Army, whereas the happy-go-lucky/nowhere punk attitude reminds me of early Devo. (Both Gary Numan and Devo are amongst my all time favourites.) But, I think that the composition isn’t warped/messed up in a convincing way. I feel it should be sillier/angrier/weirder… you name it. Actually a bit too convetional to my ear… ![]() ![]() But a catchy phrase that isn’t easily shaken… Kiitos! ![]() :EDIT: I want to add, for the most eerie aggressive programmed everything/live guitar and vocals combo in existence, look no further that the norwegian band Piledriver. Amazing stuff! :? Regards

Thanks for the comment! Yes, I think this would improve (?) if I'd make it even weirder than it is now. Currently it features synths, sampled drums, french horns and cellos, plus my guitar. Maybe a jaw-harp somewhere, and perhaps a bajo would add more flavor (and I'm not kidding!). I'll think about it, maybe I'll rework this piece sometime... I'll have to look up Piledriver. It certainly sounds interesting ![]() Thanks again!

What an interesting fusion! as you say its quite wierd, but in a good way I think. It reminds me of anime/rpg music. My suggestions are the same as Thorolf's, it should be sillier/angrier/weirder! Nice one, thanks for sharing. p.s. What did you use to create this? VSTs?

Thanks Maestro! Yes, I used mostly VSTs: EWQL Colossus (drums, synths), EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Gold (the cellos and horns in the background), and my real Cadenza electric guitar amplified through Guitar Rig VST. Sequenced on FL Studio 6 (I like its easier workflow compared to Cubase).
