Finale's GPO; can it be used in Garageband too?

Well, as the title of this thread says; is there a way to use the sound samples of the GPO supplied with Finale (2007) in Garageband?

I'm a bit of a newby when it comes to working with my Mac so can use all the hlep I can get.

Thanks !

Peter

I don't have first hand experience from Finale 2007 or Garageband but my guess would be no. Most bundled sample sets are locked so that they can't be used with other programs.

Hi Gravehill,

It seems you're right about that. After endless fooling around in Garageband (I'm new to it...) I was able to get Kontaktplayer up and linked and could see the GPO library....... but when cliking on an intrument to select it gives an errror (not properly registered or something), so................

Where do I find (for free, I'm dutch...lol) a library similar or better than Garritan's that I can properly register / use / link in kontaktplayer and/or Garageband?

Re: Finale's GPO; can it be used in Garageband too?

I think it might be pretty difficult to find a free orchestral sample library, no matter how bad. There is the possibility of using SoundFonts, but I haven't really looked into them, and I'd bet it's just as hard to find quality orchestral SoundFonts although you could try searching the web for them.

Buying a sample library might unfortunately be the only option. Some of the cheapest libraries include GPO (199€), MOTU Symphonic Instrument (259€), and EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Silver Pro+XP (275€). The prices are based on Finnish stores, but you can order EWQL Silver at www.soundsonline-europe.com for 140€. From these three, I would personally recommend EWQL Silver. I haven't used it myself, but I do own the Gold edition and it is a pretty good library. My guess is that Silver is better than GPO although I'm not 100% sure.

If you have more money to spend, you could consider VSL Special Edition Standard which sells for about 400€. In my opinion it beats all of the above libraries.

Also remember that these libraries won't necessarily work in Finale, especially the VSL. However, you can probably use EWQL Silver with Finale's Kontakt Player.

Peter,

I just discovered that there's a collection of GarageBand instruments called Boldt which you can apparently download for free. You can find them here: http://benboldt.spymac.com/instruments.html
