Experimental arrangement

As Time Goes By

A resurrected project has led to this hurried arrangement(?) (and explains why I'm ready to buy a decent piano VSTi) although, curiously, it seems to satisfy the criteria of sounding hesitant and like someone practicing on a not-too-good piano. The cheesy strings are part of the parody!
It's short because of a time limit.

If anyone can suggest a way of synthesising a drum brush, I'd be most appreciative. I did this one by taming open and closed hi-hats...not too convincing but it's a start.

Any comments gratefully received. Thanks. I'll improve on the sound as I get kitted out.

I don't think the strings sound cheesy, Reith. Sounds like typical show band writing to me.

As for the synth brush sounds . . . Well, if you're on a Mac, Garage Band has some good samples that require very little tweaking. Believe it or not, the Yamaha QY-70 has some very realistic brush samples and patterns that are very easy to use.

I know I don't have the best ears, but the piano sounds fine to me. There was a time here and there when the strings seemed a bit jumpy (not much).

Nice piece!

Boneman is on a distinguished road
Do you do the music for telephone companies R?! If not then you should! Lovely peaceful scoring.

Yeah, I'm susprised I haven't got done over by the Percy Faith mob... guess I'm nothing to worry them!

Thank you for these comments -

I haven't the said equipment to pick up the brush samples but I do have this horrid old Casio that might just come up with something. I'll give it a lookover.

Uh, Boneman, I'd have to polish up my style a bit to get on the muzak circuit if it's still around - music percolating through polystyrene ceilings...hmm... The telephone music I've heard is usually Vivaldi's 4 cheeses or Bach's Brandenberg #3. Still, a bit of jungle music might put the callers off if that's what the companies want!
