Turok 2 on the Nintendo 64. So moody! I was treated to a replay over Christmas on this antique machine (that still manages to give superb gameplay). Gamesters were always complaining about the misty horizons as ninetendo tried to push graphics to the limit! Turok 2 was pronounced an excellent example of the bad in this respect. To me those mists, morning sunlight and seductive music simply made the Port of Ardia a place I wanted to live, if only I could rid it of these mosters and find a job playing or composing! But the extant music is enough really. ![]()

Here is an interesting new one - Star Fox: Assault. Whilst the game itself has had mixed reviews, one thing that gets you immediately is the quality of the music. It has a full orchestrated score which just sounds absolutely beautiful; so good they even made a soundtrack CD of certain tracks in the game, performed by the Tokyo New City Orchestra. Kinda glad I bought this now. It's worth the price for the music alone.

Battlefield 1942 of course. And, some other games which quoted music from animations. Actually, I mean one and it is the Super Robot Wars series. I love the Main Title from Mobile Suit Gundam Char's Counter Attack. Well, it may not be so popular in Europe as the series is mainly in Japanese.

I'll list my ten favourites, in the order of play counts in winamp's media library. The .s3m and .mod files need something more versatile than windows media player to play, such as winamp. 10. Waltz of the Demons - Doom; id Software; Bobby Prince Waltz, yes. General Midi, but Waltz. And carnage. And bloodshed. To the tune of Waltz. Quite surreal, sort of eerie experience. 9. Theme - Lotus 3; Gremlin Graphics; Patrick Phelan It'll play in your head for hours on end. Then days. Then weeks. Then months. It's that catchy. 8. Theme - Zool 2; Gremlin Graphics; Patrick Phelan It's hilarious. Then again, what is there about a 4-legged ninja ant that ISN'T? 7. Never Get Outta the Car (Extended Slap mix) - Interstate '76; Activision/Bullmark; Arion Salazar Starsky & Hutch, anyone? The all-star band assembled from the most skilled players ever with a tongue-in-cheek touch made some unforgettable music for the game set in an alternate 70's. 6. Theme - No One Lives Forever; Monolith Productions; Rich Ragsdale I literally laughed through the main credits - the backdrop, effects, Cate Archer's dancing, everything is done so bond-esque, and the music tops it off. It wouldn't be the same without it. 5. Zero Signal - Carmageddon; Stainless Software/Fear Factory On the background of the introduction cutscene of Carmageddon, this track really kickstarts the adrenaline ready for the bloodshed. 4. Hippie Heaven - Jazz Jackrabbit 2; Epic Megagames/Straylight Productions; Alexander Brandon & Sean Hiler Funk in a computer game? I'm in! 3. Main theme - Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six; Red Storm Entertainment/SoundDelux Medialabs; Bill Brown Very Clancy. Very Zimmer. And Zimmer is a soudntrack god. 2. System Shock theme - System Shock; (higher quality version) Looking Glass Studios; Greg LoPiccolo Okay, i'm partial to rank the main theme of my favourite game high but sue me. It's a great game and the greatest title track ever. 1. Shared Dig - Unreal; Epic Megagames/Straylight Productions; Alexander Brandon Without playing, just listening to the music you can tell exactly what goes on in the map: The native Nali population are enslaved by the Skaarj to work in the tarydium mines. The viewpoint of the Nali is prefecly realised in the track. Last edited by jhuuskon : 01-02-2007 at 08:35 PM. Reason: higher quality version of ss theme

Re: What game music do you like? Half-LifeČ: mostly because of its fitting and dramatic usage - most of the game is silent (as in, there's no music) Project I.G.I. (both parts): very moody and spy-ish, infiltration-ey theme; sometimes, I used to launch the game just to listen to the music. Doom: childhood memories :-). I have the Doom OC Remix music in my playlist even: http://doom.ocremix.org/ The list could be definitely longer, these are just the three games that come to mind immediately when thinking about music I liked.

The Halo score by Marty O'Donnell is great (although I don't think they should have started adding "pop" [for lack of a better term] music to the sequel's soundtrack), I love Jeremy Soule's work on ES4:O (at least I think this was him) and Prey. And of course: LEGEND OF ZELDA!! ![]() |

Re: What game music do you like? In 1989, I became obsessed with the music in Shadow of the Beast (Amiga version). That's the first game music that really blew me away. I liked some of the original DOOM (shareware verison) music, especially level 5 (simple, but eerie). A few years ago, somebody made a hi-fi version of it and it sounded amazing. Some game music, like The Faery Tale Adventure, The Settlers and Warcraft II, I'm not sure I like it because it's good or just that I've been brainwashed by listening to it non-stop for hours while playing. ![]()

Re: What game music do you like? Maybe it's just me, but aside from what most of yo uposted here (fire emblem, final fantasy, mario, zelda, chrono trigger/cross, tales series), I'm also a fan of some Castlevania music. Is it just me or does it seem that the older the game is, the better the music. For some reason, I find myself more drawn to remakes of the older songs rather than songs from the newer games.
