| Suggestion For the notation terminology, Chapter 1, In America, the "hooks" on eighth notes are called "flags" and on groups of notes called "beams". Obviously there's also a difference in the use of Quaver, Crotchet, etc. for you guys, where we use Quarter Note, Eighth Note, etc. You probably should have a link for American English terms! And just a side note - the stem direction for notes on the middle line is traditionally DOWN. However, in the symmetry situations - like if you had | | | A A B A, | then it should (or may) follow the majority (so in that sense it's variable). | | | | A A B A This says the same thing, but place priority on the variable version, which is not usual usage (admittedly, it gets flipped so often it really isn't a big issue, just thought you should know).
