Daybreak...

At Daybreak:
Time: 3'45"

A bit slow and ruminative.

2 flutes, 2 clarinets, harp, 1 percussionist (who just touches in glitter here and there), strings.

Another symbolist piece that fitted on my computer with minimal trouble. It was written a few years ago, inspired by the moments before the sun comes up in summer when the sky is that luminous blue you never get elsewhere.

I'm about as satisfied as I'm likely to be with it - however, I'd be pleased for any suggestions or crits before I run up a final score. The resources aren't exactly huge and it's in the bounds of getting performed once I get settled down and talk to our local outfit. I may have to substitute a piano for the harp, perish the thought.

So thanks if you can give it a listen.

cheers,
reith.

Huh...one of these motorists who doesn't know about not sounding it between 11.30pm and 7am. Or do you live in a very rural area?

Ha Ha! I meant that whilst listening to it I was aurally visualising a horn.

Re: Daybreak...

Interesting music, it was fun listening to it. You are very good in setting a mood, though personally I don't know if it really fits the end of a summer day... Replacing the piano with a harp sounds very interesting to me!

Re: Daybreak...

Thanks for that. Yes, it's a bit symbolist. But it was meant to be at dawn rather than dusk hence the somewhat luminous scoring. I may post a "late-evening" piece I did as a film idea but symbolist music doesn't seem to go well on this forum. We'll see.

cheers,
reith
