I really like these pieces, but not quite sure on how to improve them, what are you planning on doing with them long-term?

Re: Some short pieces for wind band

No, I'm not a percussionist. I just checked out the midis, and there is a fair bit of 'extra' percussion in them.

In D minor, the clarinets have been turned into tuned percussion, and the same thing has happened to a number of instruments in 'suitesomething.'

Sorry about that, I don't really know how to fix that problem.

Ok - I thought that was a little funky (unless you are a percussionist, and then I can see why one would like to highlight one's own section!).

Yes, you should check your files after you post them to make sure they are what you expect - you probably don't want people hearing something different than what you wrote and then in conversation you wonder what the heck they're talking about - Xylophone? what Xylophone!!!

Some things on Channel 10?

Best,
Steve

Did you spend any time checking your music prior to posting? there are many basic errors in it.

The music sounds like something from many years ago eg from the classical era. That is good if it is what you wanted.

I just feel that it is not reflecting your own personnal voice.

You're right, it doesn't really reflect my own personal voice - I wrote this a while ago, before I realised what type of music I want to write.

It was intended to be fairly neo-classical. What are some of the errors you were talking about?

Re: Some short pieces for wind band

This is just a generalisation and my own opinion.
I consider myself to be a composer who bases most of my work on melodic lines and that is the first thing I look for. Unfortunately I did not see too much evidence of that in any of the pieces.

Basic errors included layout of the score order, playing ranges, breathing points and dynamics.

Try to think that your piece will be performed one day and that the players will probably be amateur and not have much rehearsal time!
