| Gloria Caribe (Orchestrated) This is the orchestrated version of my Gloria Caribana: A Gloria "Brevis" in 7 Movements. I had posted the original chamber version for Organ, Timpani and Women's Chorus with Soprano Solo a while back. Well, here is the orhcestrated version still with Soprano solo but with SATB Chorus. I'm planning to use this version for a competition. I used Caribbean rhythms in the percussion as well as in the vocal and instrumental writing. The goal was not to make the music "modern" by making it sound like popular music. I uses various rhythmic patterns and at times use the pentatonic scale and harmonies to reference Africa and the Amerinidians. Keep in mind that this is a "Brevis" piece so the movements are about 2-3 minutes long. Sometimes I wish I had made the decision to make this work a longer more developed composition. (I'm still working on the render sound quality of some of the movements. The rhythmic textures and additional percussion don't always come though clearly) Feel free to comment or ask questions. Enjoy! 1) Gloria in Excelsis - As drums sound of Africa and the Caribbean sound in the distance, European exploreres set sail on the high seas with a mind of discovery and malintent. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=5807027 2) Et in terra pax - A rhythmic cry of sadness as Amerindians are destroyed and enslaved while African slaves make the journey to the new world to share the same fate. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=5812061 3) Laudamus te - The influences of the Amerinidians, Africans and even Europeans help to form a new culture and people. Amerindians and Africans join knowledge and skill or rhythm and percussion making. They even merge gene pools. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=5841398 4) Gratia agimus tibi - The origianl merging of Amerindians and Africans gave birth to a people called the Garifuna who in turn gave new world the Punta dance and rhythms. This is a dance and a cry of thanks for life. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=5841388 5) Domine Deus - The Caribbeans learn a language that is not their own and sing a cry unto God in this new language. I played with the accents on the word "omnipotent" as to sort of represent a singing with an accent. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=5857608 6) Quoniam tu solus - The Slaves of the Caribbean would often learn or take the music of their masters and either change or add their own rhythms. This movement is a recap of the 1st movement with Caribbean rhythms in the percussion. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=5883900 7) Cum Sancto Spiritu - Indigenous culture and diversity is celebrated in Carnival complete with solo for Dramatic Coloratura Soprano. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=5933143 Last edited by Majesty : 18-08-2008 at 05:02 PM. |

| Re: Gloria Caribana (Orchestrated) Very nice job. I like it very much, although I didn't listen to it yes as carefully as it deserves. I will ... Great, indeed. |

Hey, don't worry abut not listening "as carefully as it deserves". I'm sure once you get some time you will. Hopefully, you'll enjoy it even more! ![]() |
