| Very instructive to have the score! And now I see that there are details lost in the mock-up that brings balance to the score! ![]() No more comments on the opening being slowish. The simple themes are nicely contrasted and works well. A couple of notes on the scoring, tho: In 8 the horns are scored too high for the ideas, I would consider f'' or maybe absolutely max g'' notated for such an idea. The horns in 51 is rather hard to play, but are justified by the character of the idea. In general, the horn parts are high-ish, not unplayable, but demanding in a way none of the other parts are. Also a note on trumpets and trombones: I suppose you mean to have 3 trumpets and 3 trombones playing? Then the upper staff should be named Tp I+II in C, and the second staff named Tp III in C, and the same respectively for trombone. The way it is written, looks like choirs of trumpets and trombones, where part I plays divisi, concert/symphonic band like. On the string parts, I don’t see why you want to throw all the violins right up there in the beginning of the triplet figures in e. g. 3? I would have let the V-ni II play an octave below for the first 6 notes (dropping the 8va sign) and let it join the V-ni I in unison on the way down. This way, you get it softer, richer, and not too demanding on the V-ni II players who are generally more inexperienced with intonating the top notes. Good piece! ![]() Regards |

Thanks for the comments. As far as naming the staves for the trumpets and trombones, that's the kind of detail I mentioned that was missing. When I get ready to print out the complete symphony for binding I will clean up such details. But thanks for pointing it out I kept all the violins up there because I wanted that register specifically. I didn't want the triplet figure in octaves in the violins. When I wrote this piece I was really writing for the players of my conservatory orchestra. This piece is one of my compositions that I don't expect an amateur ensemble to undertake. So, I'm wasn't considering certain members of the orchestra less skilled when it comes to areas of intonation when I composed the piece. But, those are things I do keep in mind for other pieces and performers I do thank your for all your comments! For everyone who can't ready Finale files, I tried uploading an ETF file of the score but as an ETF the file size is 1.38MB and wont' fit. Last edited by Majesty : 02-11-2006 at 03:21 AM. |

| Thanks for posting the PDF file. This has been a rough week for me, to say the least. I guess there should be no problem now for those who would like to take a look at the score. |
