River Fantasie

Here's my first full composition. It took me about five months and quite a few revisions to get this where it is today. I've posted links for all the parts, the mp3 located at soundclick (which unfortunately is in two parts, because the piece is 15 minutes long), and a midi file.

Tell me what you think!

Maybe someday someone might record a more decent (and a real band) performance of this for me. Hint hint, just kidding!

Where to find the mp3 and how to hear the song:
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...?bandID=664993

You have to look down at the bottom two files (labelled River Fantasie parts 1 and 2). Listen to the first part, then the second part, obviously. In actual performance, there is no break between the two (the final note in pt. 1 is fermata-ed and the next measure is the start of pt. 2).

I can't upload anything here at the moment, but if you'd like to view the score (in pdf or finale format from Finale '07) or the parts (pdf), PM me and we'll figure something out.

Perhaps someone can take a look at why I can't upload. Hopefully it's just me.

Re: River Fantasie

What size is the score? Seems that 4Mb is ok. I have to save pdfs in fairly low resolution or they just get huge. I'd welcome seeing the score aside from some strange harmony at around 0'50" - not sure whether it's intentional or not.

Have time to listen to Pt 1 now.

This part is chorale-like.

It felt a bit on the slow side (in that a couple of notches up in tempo would probably work - if anything. quieter moments at a briefly slower tempo would create contrast). Further contrast in the registration/voicing would add to variety - hence it would be nice either to see the score or know what it's scored for. The build up that started at 3'27" was welcome specially with the percussion though it fell back into a dirge at 3'46".

The piece has some very nice moments, harmony and scoring and at 4'58" it really started to build up.
I'll try to listen to part 2 later.

Re: River Fantasie

I can't upload at all. I even tried uploaded the Finale file to no avail.

The scoring is as follows:

Piccolo
2 Flutes
2 Oboes
3 Bb Clarinets
Eb Alto Clarinet
Bb Bass Clarinet
2 Bassoons
2 Eb Alto Saxophones
Bb Tenor Saxophone
Eb Baritone Saxophone
4 French Horns in F
3 Bb Trumpets
4 Trombones
Baritone (both Treble and Bass clef)
Tuba
Chimes
Tambourine

I think the spot at 50 secs is a rendering error. What do you expect, it's a Finale rendering, after all? Too bad it's not GPO.

Hahaha! Oh right....finale... um, no further comment. Hope to look at the rest tomorrow (informed by the scoring). I should say now that it's some achievement putting together a 15 min movement anyway, so congrats for that!

bests...
