Re: Short Valse

Good piece - nice harmony.

A slightly macabre mood (a la danse macabre).

Can I suggest reviewing the orchestration. . It comes in fine at 0'28" (strings) but around 0.35 other instruments emerge - most notably the flute which seems far too loud against the rest - if it was meant to be up front it would be drier. It's as if the temptation to make it stand out caused you to raise the track volume. If you wanted a flute solo it might be best to thin out (or fade down) the strings - maybe using just pizzicato strings, so the flute can solo at a more realistic volume.
Could the general woodwind chords be toned down a bit? The opening is translucent but the orchestral score is fairly thick.

It might have been nice if the piano came in at the end, maybe doing a coda based on the previous bars ending on a piano chord with lower strings at pp.

Otherwise, an excellent piece for a first waltz. It would also work as a piano solo.
Good luck,
reith.
