Re: Bach or Handel?

CPE (Carl Philipp Emanuel ) Bach is J.S. Bach's Son. JC (Johann Christian ) Bach was also a son of J.S. Bach. It gets confusing there being so many Bach's!

Re: Bach or Handel?

Handel for sure, just added to the poll. For my reasoning see the favourite baroque composer topic.

Re: Bach or Handel?

Here's a little present for members, a couple of tracks I uploaded for a friend but I don't see why they won't be appreciated here too.

Duet 'As steals the morn..' from L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato', a brief glimpse of heaven:

Overture to Judas Maccabaeus, from the Hyperion recording by alleged child molester Robert King and his band. Great fugal tour-de-force in this one: http://files-upload.com/313786/01.Ov...Alleg.wma.html

Great stuff I'm sure you'll admit.

Any comments welcome.

Yes you are right, here is the link to the duet, From the recording by John Gardiner on Erato label: http://files-upload.com/281478/33_L_...Part3.wma.html

enyoy!

Handel did have a head for fugues as the overture shows, it's just there was more than one string to this composers bow.

Carl Philip Emanuel Bach (a son) - Carl also spelled with K sometimes.

Johann Christian Bach (a son) - hung out with Haydn and Mozart, also called the "London Bach" because he lived there fro a while.

There's also Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (a son) you'll run across occaisionally. Age-wise, it's
WF
CPE
JC

The interesting thing is the way you can see the transition form Baroque to Classical within these guys' works in a much more linear fashion than when people think "Bach to Haydn".

There's also PDQ Bach. I'll let you look him up :-)

Best,
Steve

Hah! Yep, Peter Schickele. Crikey, it's been a time since I heard of him - Louisville LP Three Views through an Open Window.

Yes, he's a far superior composer to JS Bark.

Re: Bach or Handel?

Handel for me, 100%. The only other compose who comes close is Monteverdi.

Re: Bach or Handel?

It was a hard decision, but I think that Bach wins for several reasons:

I. The sheer volume of his works
II. The fact that every piece sounds very nice
III. Because he's Bach!!!

Haendel comes very close...very close, but he is not as good as Bach. They both were very interesting people though.
