Patriotic Music What music do you think particulary makes you feel patriotic for your country? I'm just listening to a Naxos CD of "Rule Britannia" and other music from "last night of the proms" The tracks are: William Walton - Crown Imperial Hubert Parry - Jerusalem Edward Elgar - Enigma Variations, Op. 36, No. 9, "Nimrod" Henry Wood - Fantasia on British Sea Songs I. The Saucy Arethusa II. Tom Bowling III. Jack's the Lad IV. Farewell ye Spanish Ladies V. Home Sweet Home VI. See the Conquering Hero VII. Rule Britannia Malcolm Arnold - Tam O'Shanter Overture, Op. 51 Hubert Parry - I was glad when they said unto me, Op. 51 William Walton - Orb and Sceptre Edward Elgar - Pomp and Circumstance, Op. 39, March No. 1 I think all the pieces are excellent. One of my particular favourites is the Tam O'Shanter Overture. I recently went to hear this in concert and it was most impressive.

Re: Patriotic Music You know, this is an interesting question because I've never felt particularly patriotic, not for political reasons...don't really know why. Music has been strong in my life and I've been about everywhere with that! So I suppose it's music that brings UK/England to mind so: Elgar (but it's more music like Starlight Express, Symphony 2, the Enigma Variations, Chanson du Matin etc than the Pomp and Circumstance marches). Delius' Brigg Fair and Summer Garden. reith

Re: Patriotic Music I don't think we've got any patriotic music besides the national anthem (La Brabançonne) maybe le regiment Sambre et Meuse by Robert Planquette. But I like playing those known tunes you've summed, they are crowd pleasers. Most of them got some powerful feeling into also Ode an die Freude, 1812, auld lang syne,... got that.
