Re: Most influential musician in history Two people who fundamentally altered the course of music, and a few others who were enormously influencial, aren't even on your list, though: Claudio Monteverdi, Hector Berlioz, Arnold Schoenberg, John Cage, and LaMonte Young. A list of influencial musicians should really have those five on it.

Re: Most influential musician in history For me personally Olivier Messiaen has had the biggest influence on me as a composer. Le Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps is one of my all time favorite works. As for the most influential musician of all time, that is quite a hard decision to make. Jazz wouldn't exist as we know it (if at all) without Louis Armstrong, Bach's contribution is obvious in everything, and Beethoven's structure and style set the bar for everyone thereafter.

Re: Most influential musician in history out of that, beathoven, but it would probably be ozzy or metallica for recent music, all that emo crap sucks and isnt gonna influence anything in the future, so thats out, its gotta be an early metal artist, but if its not, it might be the beatles or the rolling stones

Re: Most influential musician in history There are two ways to look at this. One is who's most influential in the HISTORICAL development of music, and the other is who's the most influential to TODAY's music. Historically, I'd probably say Beethoven. He even appeared twice on the list of candidates (Furtwängler's performance of his 9th). Currently, I'd say the Beatles probably inspired more of today's musicians than anyone else.
