In one of history's more absurd acts of totalitarianism, China has banned Buddhist monks in Tibet from reincarnating without government permission.

Just how exactly do they plan to control that?

The general idea is of course to bar the next Dalai Lama from tibetanian control. He is the prime figure in Tibet, and when “reincarnated”, the person the chinese will approve, will be chinese-friendly… And, of course, there will be another—Tibetanian—Dalai Lama, and both sides will claim they got “the one and only”, and that the other is a faker…
