Wink Classical Guitar

I'm interested in Classical Guitar, does anyone else play?
And does anyone else know of any good recordings and players in the industry? And what about techniques?
I haven't heard much from guitarists on this site, so lets make ourselves known :-)

Hi there.

I play classical guitar, although not in a technical manner, I dont know any terminologies, and dont know of any famous good players. I really like Mick Harvey (of Badseeds fame), check out his covers of Serge Gainsbourg. Nice strumming work on there (he is very technical).

The only advice I could give you would be... dont bite your nails like me!

I'm a bit of a cheat. I play classical things on my gibson (std lite)...doesn't hurt half as much and the action is very low.
The problem is the sustain. Though I use 8-38s it's still enough to cause blurring in the harmony at times. Favourite piece - HVL Prelude No.2 2nd fave: Moreno-Torroba, Sonatina 2nd movement.

I play the classical guitar. I don't use any techniques (I don't think I do) and I don't know good players (does avril lavigne count???).
My advice is practise makes perfect.

I play some, but mainly bossa when I play guitar. I bite my nails, and it kills the strictly classical sound of course, but the sound is still cool. For sustain, thicker strings = more sustain = more hurt

Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake & Palmer has some exquisite, yet not to technical classical guitar work.

Regards

Don't worry, I actually can't physically bite my nails! My teeth are weird like that :-)
Hehe, Avril Lavigne does not count in my book... She's more Pop, isn't she?
And I will definitely check out those suggestions, Reith and Thorolf, and let you know what I think! Thanks guys.
I'm a rock guitarist at heart and only recently picked up my acoustic again. I'm gonna give classical guitar a go, because it's simply beautiful. I hope I get good at it! x

I play classical guitar quite alot, I'm familiar with a good bit of terminology and techniques such as triple artificial harmonics and tremolo.

If anyone has any questions regarding classical guitar I'd be glad to help as best I can

electric guitarist that are very famous is John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Steve Moss. Practice scale, Appegio, chromatic to improve your finger strength and accuracy. Play with pick, up down up down. Play with finger for classical guitar. That is my advice. Thanks

John Williams (not the film composer) is a famous Classical guitarist. He played at the bbc proms last year. But my knowledge stops there

Great tips! I know of most of those electric guitarists, tawei82, but I prefer the techniques of people like Dimebag Darrell if you've heard of him! I like my music to have meaning and feeling, rather than guitarists just showing off. And as for my 'up, down, up down' pick technique? It sucks! It annoys my guitar teacher so much lol
