I'm not sure if someone already responded, neither is it to attack you or your statement, but I really must disagree. Besides the technical aspect of the instrument I, as a pianist, play, there's a lot of emotional relay required to make it "sound right". Most of this is done through timing and velocity variation; listen to any random midi and you'll notice how bland it sounds, take it to a piano player who knows how to put feeling into it, and it'll sound a whole lot different ^_^ I know, 'cause I keep hearing that people know exactly how I feel by the way I play. |

| Hey, guess what? I'm a piano major and I just discovered that I actually can sing. All I have to do is project my voice. All these years I have just been quietly singing and thinking "there's no way" |

| Yeah, find the ancient book of wizardry and get the spell fo voice exchanging. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() :yes :Seriously, I have found that you will sound much better if you just sing louder. That means you have to get over any shyness you have about singing in front of people. |

| While this is (read: can be, depending per individual) true, I also believe that mastering any instrument (including your voice) is to be able to play (or in this case sing) accurately, but moderated (read: softly). Ofcourse, there's nothing wrong with some good ol' practice ![]() |

![]() Very true. The main part of why singing out loud might do some good for the quality of the sound, is that to be able to sing fairly loudly, you have to breathe deeper than usual, hence activating the core organ to singing and blowing, the belly muscles (at the diaphragma). So go on yell at the top of your lungs, it’s only cool, but take care not to stress the throat muscles as you go! The whole secret of singing is to be able to relax your throat, while working your butt off pumping air… *Actually, some vocal teachers recommend to tighten the butt muscles to reach high notes…*, but it’s just a trick to get the focus on air support as low as possible. And, get into a choir that sings out loud, once in a while. Great vocal training! ![]() Regards Last edited by Thorolf : 02-11-2006 at 10:35 AM. |

| Hmmmmm, I think that the generalisation that piano players sing like frogs is quite unrelated to actual people who play piano and sing.... I play quite a lot of piano and I was told in school that I had a great voice and even got a few solos in assemblies and things like that.... So I think that while it might be fun to say 'oh: piano players sing like frogs' I seriously doubt whether playing the piano has any physical effect on a person's voice or singing technique (whether it's good or bad!) :-) Regards, Ben |

| Diana Krall plays the piano while singing, so does Elton Jhon.Maybe what its take is just lots of training. |

| Re: Myth or fact? The friend who also teaches me piano is mainly a pianist and he has a lovely singing voice. |
