Re: Myth or fact?

No doubt it is perfectly possible to learn to sing just as to learn the piano. The voice is the instrument after all, and very few people never sing. It can be trained. One could level the opposite argument - singers make terrible pianists, is more likely though I don't think it true if a singer really wants to play.

Re: Myth or fact?

I think it's just the way that pianists approach music. A pianist could simply fake emotion and just adjust his playing technique to sound emotive, whilst in fact having no emotion inside. Since pianists only really have to know how to use their hands, rather than their heart. (Although their music would sound better if they used their heart as well.... but that's another matter altogether)

A singer must have a naturally instinctive feel for music, they tend to feel the music inside of them, most singers I know are amazingly good at hearing the intervals in music etc whereas me as a pianist I can't really distinguish them much at all.

Re: Myth or fact?

To be honest, I don't see how a person's ability to play piano has any direct effect on the person's singing abilities.

But when a person is exposed to such a musical atmosphere, I think his vocal abilities get at least better than if a person didn't have any contact with any sort of instrument.

My point is, that perhaps the person's exposure to a very wide ranged such as the piano would ultimately improve the person's vocals, since he has gotten acquainted to the keys.
