why would you need to sing to play guitar?

The guitar requires only mininum pitch recognition. The only time it's really used is when it's being tuned. Unlike violin, which requires alot of this to make even a single note.

I can sing a 'little.' I'm really only good at Country, because, well, my voice is about as deep as Trace Adkin's.

I'm 33 and I only started singing the college concert choirs 6 years ago. In fact the Western Oregon University choirs just sang Handel's "Messiah". I'm just glad it wasn't written by Beethoven (we sang Beethoven's Ninth last year ).

My focus is composition so I never had any extensive training (only a couple of group voice classes). I do know about vocal techniques so I can get by.

We had to sing in conducting class & the choral director teaches a couple of terms. One time she leaned over and asked if I had perfect pitch I usually try to match pitches with the piano but when there's untrained singers with an orchestra then it's a lot harder to match pitches. I'm a flounder when I'm by myself which shows my lack of ear training

I've been playing violin since I was young so that helps in the choral area.

I'm 17 and i've not had as much experience as you've had in concerts and so forth, but i've done a few school solos such as the old favourites 'O mio babbino Caro' and 'summertime' they tend to get a better reception if the audience recognises them, as my school isn't particularly classically based.

I've sang 'how beautiful are the feet' from 'messiah', are you familiar with it?

It is alot harder to reach your full potential when around people you are the same level as, I find that if you're around super good people you up your game by about 100%! hehe

My friend is very into composition as well, but it's always good to dip into other things, like you have done by playing the violin. I also play the flute it helps improve my note rhythms as well as my breathing!
