Anybody sing?

It seems like not many people on this site think they can sing, maybe they're just shy! I reckon alot of people could be taught to sing (Obviously not everyone because they get so convinced by people that they can sing that they don't bother learning!) Anybody actually enjoy singing or had any funny experiences with people who can't sing? I know a few at my school who think they can, and they tend to wear an awful lot of makeup and bully anyone who doesn't do the same!! hehe

On the contrary, i would say too many people think they are good singers.
And as an experienced singing tutor/vocal coach, I would say that 'most people' cannot be taught to sing properly, in the same way 'most people' cant be taught to play piano, violin, trumpet, harp etc. etc.
Assuming we are talking about a reasonably decent level of accomplishment, being able to sing well, like anything else, requires a large helping of natural ability.
But I would also cite it as being the most difficult instrument to master.
Mind you, I would say that.

I didn't mean that most people could be taught to sing i said alot of people could be taught to sing, because i know where you are coming from on that some people can't be taught. If that makes sense sorry to confuse.

Well, I've had some vocal training and have studied up on the voice quite a bit. I don't sing anymore because it just go to hard to juggle piano, composition, conducting and singing and to do all of them well.

During my last vocal stage I was a Bass-Bariton/Dramatic Baritone. My teacher said it sounded like I could be a young Basso. I do like the fact that I know a lor about the voice. I tend to lean towards composing vocal/choral works so having vocal experience and knowledge really helps.

Yeah i know what you mean, a little bit of knowledge of what you're composing for goes a long way!
Many of the singers i know don't tend to bother with knowing about theory or harmony, i'm trying to be different and less ignorant by learning a bit about what i'm singing or playing, i've even got my boyfriend to teach me harmony! I must say though I am quite slow not being a great piano player so I find it takes a lot longer to work out the chords im studying! :?
Oh and Aron Alexandrine thats a good plan vocals and guitar go well, and you may even win a few girls over with it!

I sing. Double majoring in composition/vocal performance. It's great fun.

My experience is substantially less than yours, but I'm going to disagree anyway (I don't really have to know anything to disagree, as anyone on an internet board). There are definitely people who cannot be taught to be musical because of some deficiency, but I believe that the vast majority of the population could sing (or play violin, trumpet or anything else) at a professional level if they had the passion and were willing to put in the effort. Since this is an unprovable assertion I can't give any proof, but I have my own experience which is enough for me.
