There can be no general answer to this question. There is an ambiguity regarding if this is a general question, of if it is a question about a particular recording.

To be able to answer the question, one has to ask for what kind of equipment that has been/will be used, etc.

Otherwize you just answer in the fashion:
“Q: How do I record a song? A: Using some recording equipment!”

I suggest that trying to clarify what the question was, is not being a smartass.
