| I'd go for a large condenser (or two if you want it in stereo) - the problem is that they usually need a power supply - some will work on a 9v through a battery. They're normally balanced XLR so you need an audio input to your computer to give power, handles the XLR and outs USB to your computer. Several are available and they'll be cheaper in America than here. Alesis, Edirol and others make these. Mikes - I'd go for Neumann (TLM103) but look up other models and makes - AKG, Beyerdynamic (they do a moderately priced small condenser). The more expensive ones give you choices of pattern, output attenuation and other things. You'll also need stands - and I better mention it, a good room - one not quite dry but not too echo-y either. I'd say you'd need a pair of cardoids (about 50-80cm away) but people have different views so let's see what they say. Reith apologies for a late edit - the system logged me out!!! | Great tutorial for recording acoustic guitar here: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Aug0...cacgtr0801.asp For 1000$, you should get either a pro single large diaphragm mic like AKG 414, http://www.epinions.com/AKG_C414BULS...nal_Microphone or a pair of cardioid small diaphragm condenser mics (I like Shoeps myself). Don’t be afraid of the phantom power box needed, to record properly, you need a stand and a room anyway (like reith said) and another small box breaks little and makes a lot. ![]() Regards |
