Advice on software

Could anyone help me in my choice of software for use as a portable recording studio for use on a laptop?

It mainly depends on the specs of your laptop. Generally all recording software is CPU and RAM heavy. Cubase offers a good solution as does Fruity Loops. What is the nature of the work that is needed to be carried out? VST's? Samples? Recording?

For 2-track recording, Peak is cool.

You can pick up a good microphone cheaply on the internet if you look around, but for recording software, there is a wealth of choice out there. Some of the more popular ones:

Cubase, Sonar, Fruity Loops, Nuendo, Digital Performer.

All of these have fairly large price tags but many offer cheaper "lite" versions.

It seems that you could do with a little general advice, and hence I made this thread: http://www.music-web.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=48
