Re: Free software for Recording, Mixing and Mastering

After a discussion here, it is definitely not advisable to do this for windows. On the other hand, if you’re on mac, I might help you, because that I have done myself (for smaller softwares).

Re: Free software for Recording, Mixing and Mastering

Well, there are extensive tutorials, here, with notes on Mac OSX unix compiling environments here. Myself just installed developer tools to get GCC, and just followed the tutorial on how to compile a certain app here. This site also includes the various ./configure commands necessary for compiling to a certain machine. But the universal binaries included in the regular release should work fairly well. It should be noted, tho, that you may just have to build Ardour from scratch locally, to get VST support, as it is illegal to distribute copies of the app with VST support included, even if the source code for this is free… :?

Good luck, and just ask if you hang at any step!

Regards

Re: Free software for Recording, Mixing and Mastering

I'm not a natural born technie I'm afraid, so all the links were a bit beyond my level. I'm sorry you've gone to this trouble on my behalf, but I think it would be safest for me to stick to the commercially available version after all.

Thank you for trying to help me though, and sorry I can't make use of it but hopefully other people who are more technologically adventurous will have found the information useful. Me, I'm just going to keep paddling in the shallow end for the time being till I learn how to swim ;-)

hehe, I, for one, am a natural born techie, and even I put off the prospect of compiling Ardour locally to get the VST support going…

No trouble at all, a few google clicks and some gems from my bookmarks…

This programming/compiling environment on top of environment maelstrom, is daunting, even for a former programmer, like myself.
