| Not too happy about competitions, on moral grounds. How can music composition be competitive? It isn't a sport, it's a creation born of someone's wish to express themselves for various reasons. How d'you judge that? Estimating whether they met their expressive objectives? I know competitions happen at various levels including nationally but...I mean...what's a winning composition? Something that a selection of judges happens to like? But as challenges to focus members' efforts and for purely subjective comparison or talking points, I shall certainly join in, time permitting! However, I know that some composers like to compete (and if the subject is a technical exercise like writing a fugue or a decent Kyrie in 'n' voices, fine, and I might join in those too), so...could we make the nature of the beast known at the outset, perchance? | Well, as you all may have noticed by now, I'm planning on making weekly or perhaps monthly challenges, depending on the interest. One of the reasons why I call them challenges is because there are usually no prizes or winners involved, they're really just challenges for people to have a go at ^_^ There's a FAQ about them in the making, but don't hesitate to ask anything Ofcourse, any input in this would be greatly appreciated, but why don't you take a look, if you hadn't already?
