IRC Chat

It is rather common for web communities to have an IRC channel of their own, where members of the community can chat with each other, ask question, share ideas etc. and also a good place for new comers to get to know the community. Do you think it's a good idea to have one for Music-Web? I think it is.

P.S: If you don't know what IRC is, here's a link: http://www.mirc.com/irc.html

Well then, I shall open a channel name #Music-Web in the freenet network. I will stay logged in as long as my computer will be on, though I might be away, and we'll see how it works.

Good idea! I'll get hold of the program and be on as long as I can. It would be a good place to hang out.

p.s. We have plans for a fully intergrated chat system on the forum, but not till the new year

They are okay but they might reduce the number of posts a little

If the chat gets the green light, people will have to be considerate of the need to keep the posts/threads going as well.

There may be a danger as boneman has commented that people will place items in chat and deviate from the forums.

According to my experience, IRC doesn't make the traffic of the forum lower, because it is a place for mostly off-topic small talk and not super-complex theory discussion place.

p.s. We have plans for a fully intergrated chat system on the forum, but not till the new year
Is there anything I can do to help? I am a programmer.

At the moment it might be a bit quiet because there are rarely more than two and three members on the forum at once, but then it might encourage all those guests to join!

I'll send you a pm

True, but as Ron Ofir has pointed out, the chat will be more of a "hang out" off topic, and the main indepth music discussion will still be on the forum.
