Apologies for downtime

You may have experienced Music-Web being slow, unresponsive or even not accessible in the last 48 hours. The server has been down due to someone DDoS'ing the server (denial-of-service attack).

At the moment I have no details of if it was our site targeted or another site on the server, but i should find out sooner or later.

Please accept our apologies

We have technicians working on resolving the issue and further protecting our server from future attack.

Re: Apologies for downtime

I suspect there's a particular domain being hosted in the same data centre that has caused these problems, but which one remains to be determined...

we'll find out soon

Can't help a certain bitterness that people would get up to this sort of stuff assuming it was a 'someone', messing up the hard work of others.

Sorry to hear but here's hoping everything goes ok now...

Re: Apologies for downtime

Make no mistake: a denial-of-service attack is always intentional. The very reason to do it is to mess up things. Whether Music-Web™ was the target, or someone else on the same server, we don’t know yet.

We have to hope that we got in the line of fire by mistake (as collateral damage), till proven otherwize.

Re: Apologies for downtime

So, what is it? Bringing the server down by some means? (Obviously, I'm not interested in knowing how it's done but I'm just surprised that it's even possible to do it. Is there no security? No ACF? My hands on IT experience is limited to joining PCs to mainframes, usually via intermediate machines like an AS/400, probably a museum-piece by now - and IBM mainframes were virtually unhackable in the way PCs client-server setups seem to be).

No....silly question. Probably best not to answer. I can't think why anyone would want to bring this site down, though.

Re: Apologies for downtime

The server is starting to be more stable now but there are a few parts of the server not functioning properly yet.

Hopefully these problems will be resolved soon.

Re: Apologies for downtime

The server has been upgraded today to add 1GB of extra RAM, hopefully this will resolve some problems with the slowness of Music-Web
