Fanfare, Refrain and Lament

I'd be interested in comments on this for Brass Quintet. Be warned - the tonality is ironic!

Sounds fine to me. Accustomed to Bob Graettinger and Varèse, the tonality gave me no problem. I liked the rhythmic effect in the opening. Nice variations in scoring and I particularly liked your spread of the parts. Also, a great close. Some interesting use of motives but the structure is yours so I can't comment on that.

Nuances in dynamics and timbre would come over better when played live.

I agree. You did spread the parts nicely, creating nice moments of contrast in texture and timbre.
