Smile Some melancholic pieces

Hi there,

I'm impressed by this small, but creative and interested community. I recently started composing orchestral works (did some other stuff before, but that didn't work out) and while I'm happy it's working well there's nobody around who can give me hints on how to improve my music from a musical point of view (as opposed to mixdown and mastering tips, which you can find more often).

Here are the latest two works and I'd be glad if you could have a listen and tell me what you like, what you dislike and what doesn't make sense at all .

Piece 1 - "Estapins" (2:05); flutes, strings and some brass
Piece 2 - "Eqibat" (2:35); organ, violins, some percussion, full brass section

Re: Some melancholic pieces

Piece n° 2 made no sense to me whatsoever: Static regarding dynamics, instrumentation and harmonic content, no real melodic theme, not much development…

Piece n° 1, on the other hand seemed a bit random, but it has a nice build up, and an exquizite coda! I had to give that a couple of whirls, and find it interresting.

For further commenting on instrumentation issues, I would need to see a score.

Regards

Re: Some melancholic pieces

Thank you very much for your comment. Though summarizing you provide me with more information than anyone else did up to now.

As I haven't done a score, yet, I'm currently struggling to find a way to convert the midi data contained in the Estapins project into a midi file containing all tracks, but as soon as that works I'll try to post a PDF.

Re: Some melancholic pieces

Okay, I got something ready. I had to export single tracks from Reaper to midi files, opened and rearranged them using Melody Assistant and printed it with CutePDF. Lots of information is lost or gone strange, but I hope it's still readable.
