Re: Piece for Guitar and small orchestra(in progress) Had a listen to yours - you evoke a nice atmosphere. Although the music can't be described as "cutting edge", it has a tender old fashioned quality to it. Now one piece of advice - it's hard to make any in-roads in composition today without decent sounds - and by that, I mean a decent set of virtual instruments to play your midi files. No matter how good the piece is, rightly or wrongly, people may make a judgement on the sounds that you use. Since (obviously) I play guitar, I'd be interested to see the notation too, if you've scored it out. Best wishes, Adrian.

Re: Piece for Guitar and small orchestra(in progress) The playback is purely for confirmation of my intention. I always get the music played live. This one is in rehearsal for performance next month.

Re: Piece for Guitar and small orchestra(in progress) At one time I used to know most of the classical guitarists, but I've moved outside those circles now. Good luck with performance and get a good recording.

Re: Piece for Guitar and small orchestra(in progress) Sorry - only joined this forum today - Manchester. We have quite a few good guitarists up here, but as I say, I'm out of touch - and the internet is my way of chatting about my music and the music of others, too. There is some more of my stuff on my youtube page (my name again) - songwriting, and other short pieces, etc - and some older stuff that needs re-working and improving. And not to mention my political videos !

Re: Piece for Guitar and small orchestra(in progress) Watched it with the scorch player - and yes, I enjoyed it. It has a good balance between unity and variety. As I say, some people might find the harmonic language a little conservative, but that's only a matter of opinion. If I'm allowed to be a little critical of the guitar writing, it does feel that you've "played it safe" at times as to what's possible - because that main theme could be filled in more with chunkier guitar harmonies that really let all the strings resonate (rather than just melody and accompaniment). When William Walton wrote the 5 Bagatelles for Julian Bream (do you know these great pieces ?), Bream gave Walton a cardboard cut- out of the neck of the guitar with the notes written on the fret spaces to show what combination of notes are available, and what chords can be stretched for. For your next guitar piece, I'd really like you to fill in those guitar harmonies, but good work anyway. Best wishes adrian.

Re: Piece for Guitar and small orchestra(in progress) I would not know what was safe as I have never written for guitar before! If this one comes off maybe we could collaborate on the next one!
