a pop-song.

Hello friends,

To try something completely different I've een writing a pop-song based on lyrics I got. I'd like to share the result and maybe have some opinions about it.

A representation of the music can be heard here:

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...?bandID=881631

I made this song in Finale 2009 but exported a midi and processed it in Logic to make what you hear.

I would love to have some opinions on the chords of the song; I added them to the score, but....
I CANNOT UPLOAD A PDF TO THIS POST !
(sorry for the shouting.... Moderators: I hope you hear it now!).

As soon as I can upload a score I will and hopefully you can help me identify the underlying chords; I've tried name them all but do not feel comfortable with the result. Guitarists: if you can help me send me a mail and I'll reply with a score......

Thanks in advance for listening,

Peter

P.S. it's a bit strange having a church choir singing the lyrics in only aaah's. Does anyone know a better way for a virtual singer?

Re: a pop-song.

I like the bass, guitar, and voice treatment. I think the introduction could have more of an "edge" to it.

I have been unable to upload since last July. Soundclick doesn't seem to be a good place for pdfs or Finale files though.

Hi Tony,

I tend to agree with you here but am I bit at a loss what to add / change..
The piano intro plays the same notes in the verse (it's a verse with only piano..).. I had a bass guitar putting some low notes under it but that is not really changing much (even though I like the sound of the bass guitar a lot).

What would you do to spice it up?

Re: a pop-song.

This is an introduction, so it need not be exactly what's coming up later, just a hint. I can think of a couple things you might try.

Perhaps in the intro, let the piano run over a wider range. It's just playing in a single octave. The opening arpeggios could be expanded to two or even four octaves. With no other instruments, there won't be any interference in timbre.

Sometimes one can create an edgier sound using different harmony in the introduction. Maybe something like I, aug6 (any of them), I64, V7 leading into the main part. Or even (in a minor mode) ii06, V7 or just a big V9. Another thing is aug6,aug6,I64,V7. Polka use V7, V0, V7, V7 but that's only suitable for polkas.

Rhythmetically, you could divide the first beats or the last beat.
