March and Anthem from my opera...

Here is a March and Anthem from my opera that I'm currently working on. The music has a strong Caribbean flavor, although the opera is not Caribbean themed.

The music is supposed to have a combined sense of victory, praise, waywardness and sinister intentions.

I used some polyrhythms but I'm not sure if it all comes through clearly. I am considering making the bass line a little lighter so that the bass rhythms aren't too "muddy" sounding.

You might want to consider having instruments in their own place in the staff system. It's extremely busy & the instruments are fighting with each other & it sounds very muddy. Thinning out the texture would be a good start.

i disagree, while it is quite busy, i also like the half-intensity generated, i also like the way that it has a modernesque touch to the song, even though it is still in the classical genre. i think it could use some work, but its bloody interesting to listen to.

I think it’s just great!

I have nothing negative at all to say about this music!

Love to see the score, tho!

I agree too, but I think just transposing it up a 5th would give a brighter sound and avoid the muddy problems your having at the moment. With some work, this could be great!

I just listened to it again, and I must say I just love it even more! Please don’t touch it!

No muddy problems to my ear, the production leaves some to be desired, but as it’s just a mock-up, I need to see the score to make a final judgement…

But I suspect on beforehand that my conclusion will be the same…

Regards
