La Follia for recorder ensemble

La Follia is an old chord progression that has inspired many composers. Including me!

Listen

This is a work in progress. I'm happy with the first 1:30, the variations after that need elaborating a bit more.

Victor.

This is a great piece, probably the best i've ever heard for a recorder ensemble. Both the composing and the performance I find outstanding.

What is the instrumentation?

I'm also intrigued that recorders can play chromatically. How is this done?

Thanks for the compliments.

The first 1:30 has 4 altos, two tenors, bass and great bass. After that two sopranos are added, starting with the chromatic parts. In the very last line I add sopranino and gar klein, so that's 10 parts plus 2 optional.

Playing chromatically on a recorder is quite possible. It's just hard.

By the way, I tried to play this live a while ago with some friends. The 4-over-3 passage turned out to be hard, and the little bit of hokket was completely impossible.

Victor.

Very nice. I like the folia progression myself. (I also like the passamezzo antico and massamezzo moderna too.) Some of my tangos have a folia progression somewhere inside.

Yes, altogether nice. Sounds like some quite difficult parts there.

Wow, Wonderful piece! Reminded me of some old styled medieval movies, very good!

Is there a place I could download this? I'd love to listen while I work on my PC
