An Eastern Princess

I wrote this as an entry to a local music festival. The adjudicator did not think much of it. Shame cos I quite liked it, knocked me back for a while!

This music would be nice as processional in an opera or ballet. It has a simplicity that's attractive and engaging - v easy to picture an asian-style princess entering the scene/getting married.

Sorry to hear about the festival though. Your work not being picked reflected the luck of the draw. Just a shame. Did you submit it as a score or a midi file? I'm no fan of midi but I've learned to hear "what's meant" through it. Midi does no one any favours with this kind of music - even so it came over quite well.

Great opening theme. But after a couple of repetitions you have a somewhat weak bridge passage. Then the theme again, with full strings, cool, then again that bridge passage, which really goes on a bit too long. Then the theme again in closing. If you could do something about that B theme, this would be a quite charming piece.

Victor.

Fantastic! I can read the bridge as weak given the songs ends as is. I was not done with the song, however, when it ended. This is a case where I would say development of the bridge theme would deliver a more 'complete' feeling to the piece. Also I feel like I want to be lead, in a more dramatic form, into Theme A after the bridge . It seems to just reappear. It is quite nice, though overall. I just think there is more in there.
