Re: Sonatina for Alto Sax and Strings

Just had a listen Boneman, it must have been great hearing it in performance!

Just a query, you call the piece "Sonatina for Alto Sax and Strings". The term Sonatina impliese that the first movement is going to be loosely (or reduced) sonata form but it seems to be more ternary form?

Just thought I'd point that out for future reference

Good job!

Re: Sonatina for Alto Sax and Strings

The live recording sounds great! Congratulations from me too about the commission.

The piece had a sort of 'shady' mood. The saxophone's phrases reminded me a little of jazz. Very interesting when combined with orchestral strings. The piece is very pleasing to listen to. I heard some atonal influences at some point in the strings. Added a nice touch. Overall, it's a very good piece.

Oh, I have to say the live recording sounds absolutely fabulous. Pardon me for repeating myself.

Thanks for your comments and praise. It was reviewed on my sibelius page, not as complimentary as your comments though

Thanks for pointing that out, I never knew exactly what Sonata really meant anyway. (Not as educated as you guys here!)
