I quite loved this piece - light and lilting rhythm, engaging harmony, easy melodies. I tend to be a fan of lighter scoring so I found it v easy to listen to - then when it did fill out around 2:12, it took on more of a climax. The coda was lovely - esp that appogg leading up to the 3rd of the final chord. Nice one.

The only problems I had were - a solo around 0:45 that sounded like an electronic instrument - it may have been a violin amplified a bit - just I wasn't sure what it was.

The piano is often lost in the orchestral texture - it seemed to be doing an amount of solo work around 2.35. Well, you may be perfectly happy with it so it's just my observation.

How will this piece ultimately be presented? Are you keeping it in the electronic domain? Because it works fine! For a live performance I'd say it's a bit heavy on the reverb but then, some orchestras like to add a fair bit post-production before mastering.

Very nice.

I listened to this piece several times. There's a lot going on without it sounding cluttered. It also has a lot of emotion and imagery and is very, very easy to listen to. Good job!

reith,
i TOTALLY agree...i really abhore electronic instruments...when compared to the real thing. unfortunatly, in the backwoods of Alabama... this just has to suffice. i don't play live anymore as i am getting to old to lug the gear around. i am content to write and share in this way.

being a pianist, i tend to overdo the piano in my writing. i really wanted to create a counterpuntal feel here, without the obvious use of a harpsichord. although in the broader lyrical section... the piano should be more out front... i agree.

on reverb... i don't hear near as well as i used to. i really should have someone with younger ears to master for me.

thank you for the advise and as always, the encouragement!

I don't see anything particularly wrong with electronic instruments/treatment. Most CDs have some sort of post-production stuff added, classic, pop, you name it. People have grown used to canned music these days - though I'd prefer a live performance every time, I'd never hear/have heard some of the obscure stuff I like without the recording media.

blush.... advice wasn't intended - you could teach me a lot, I'll bet. The reverb was fine for a 'recorded performance'.

Great music - easy to listen to; relaxing, engaging, that's the point.

Very nice! When I listen to this piece I get a sense that there might be some influence from the Bach keyboard concerti. I might be wrong, but I like it.

Its a very youthful sounding piece. I love the ending!

thank you, Majesty!

i do enjoy the contrapuntal style in the way it evokes motion and conveys joy...even in a minor key! i grew up with Bach's WTC book I and it is still my daily bread. i DO believe he would have a blast with our present technology, don't you think?

i recall his comments upon hearing a pipe organ for the first time...i paraphrase.." ...you just press the right buttons at the right time and the music comes out..." HAHA
