Our Only Dance

Once in a while, we luck out and get gigs that are really cool. I originally wrote this, a 02:57 tune, for a 00:30 spot for a cosmetics company event (non-broadcast) spot which was very romantic and sexy. Why such a long tune for something so short? A full song let's me stretch out, explore variations and develop ideas. Besides, I can always cut the piece and edit it to fit or use a musical idea from the piece to create something entirely new for the spot.

I thought a small studio orchestra instrumentation would work best for this gig, so I wrote the piece for piano, light percussion, bass, vibes, harp, regular, alto and bass flutes, french horn, and small string section, and went for a Johnny Mandel sound. This is the raw mix from my computer.

Now, here's where I lucked out: After the cosmetics gig, we used parts of this tune as temp tracks for two other commercials. The clients dug the temps so much they okayed them and we didn't have to come up with any other tunes for the spots! Saved us a lot of time and dough-re-mi.

Well, it must have been one smoochy dance for an only one! I'm ready to go out buy the lipstick except I'd get a seriously bad reputation if I did.

Most pleasant and relaxing. You've got some nice samples there!
And a good piece of luck. Nice when you can sell the same work twice or thrice.

cheers,
reith

Thanks, Reith, those old Advanced Orchestra samples are pretty good. I was really happy when they included alto and bass flute samples and flute keysounds in the package. Sometimes, when there is time, I'll add two or three tracks of slightly mistuned (just by a few cents) solo violins to the violin section samples and EQ the lot. I've found that this really fattens the sound.

A couple of the models at the cosmetics display where a part of this tune was played said they felt the tune was sexy until they met me.

Ouch!

Nice piece you got there, very relaxing and a nice sexy tune My only complaints would be about the recording, but as you mention it needs retouched. Nice one, thanks for sharing
