Medley of Life

3 Flutes and a Bass Flute

Here's an arrangement I've done, originally for Saxophones, but this is for a Flute Choir I'm in. If anybody has any thoughts, let me know. It's an arrangement of music from Final Fantasy IX (9).

It's my first Flute Quartet. So, I think I pushed the Flutes a bit (but I changed keys on a part that is now in Emin since it was originally in Ebm...6 flats are yucky on almost any instrument).

I actually wasn't certain whether this needed to go in here or somewhere else.

Re: Medley of Life

Most of it is very nice (I like the first part which sounds kind of medieval-ish), though it could have used a couple of trills and ormentation at places. Other than that, I'd love to hear a real performance of that. When are you going to play it, and can you post a recording (pretty pretty please)?

Re: Medley of Life

Dunno. I haven't even handed it out at Flute Choir practice (it's Thursday nights, so I have to wait until next week to practice).

It might not get performed, since I know that Square-Enix is kind of strict about what they let happen regarding Final Fantasy music.

Re: Medley of Life

Very easy to listen to. There are times when the upper register might add a touch of brightness. You probably thought of changes of timbre which aren't available on midi. I'll have a look at the score if I can sneak in some moments here and there.

Nice. Hope your fl choir plays it! Try to record it?

Re: Medley of Life

It's a very challenging piece, so it probably won't be for a couple of weeks before we get it to the point of recording. I, myself, will probably end up on the first part, but don't know for certain. The only part that doesn't really have any true melody lines is the fourth, but even that has parts where it has to be played out.

We'll practice it and see how well we get through it. Actually, I think the difficulty is in the length of the piece (it clocks in between 12 and 15 minutes at the shortest and longest).

I just noticed a correction I made but incorrectly forgot to correct it again. The part that was in Ebmin did get changed to Emin, but then I went back, not liking the transition, and instead chose to do it in Gmin. Better overall. Plus, Gmin resolves better to the Csus4 C chords than Ebmin or Emin did.
