Classical Jazz - Lydia Well here is the second part of my project, the title should say enough as to why I wrote it Well first off before anyone listens I want them to know that I meant for the piece to be a little quiet, a sort of soft graceful little melody accented by some improv and a second melody, and there are a few mess ups in the recording just in case anyone was wondering I would appreciate ANY advice, good or bad from anyone, I'm trying to improve my composition and improvisational skill with this project so anything would be helpful Well as to the piece itself I use the main melody with the harmonics basically as a starter, the second melody begins with sort of a departure, and that's on purpose because the main melody is returned to after a short time. The improv is meant to lead back to the first melody, and sometimes the second So I hope my intentions with this piece are clear, and I hope you enjoy it http://www.soundclick.com/bands/song...songID=5672114 Cheers all!

Re: Classical Jazz - Lydia Very nice piece! IMHO, the improvisations would be better if they were a little more structured, but the melodies are very sweet and the harmonies are just beautiful. Are you playing this on a fretless? Because it seemed some of the notes weren't precise (or maybe it's just my bad hearing), though there still was some fretbuzz. Keep composing, Ron Ofir.

| Re: Classical Jazz - Lydia This definitely wasn’t good enough to my ears. Its tonal language gives it a static tonality, which is very little developed, neither formally or harmonically. The rondo theme is nice, nothing more, but it could work as somewhere to come back to, if you indeed went anywhere else in the first place! ![]() And there is nothing “jazz” about it, as far as I can see? Improvising in itself doesn’t make it jazz? ![]()

Re: Classical Jazz - Lydia Actually it is a fretless bass, the only reason those few notes were buzzing is because there's a little something wrong with that particular area of the fretboard, and I can't figure out exactly what Well I appreciate the two of you taking time to review it, I am starting to see a pattern with my music (You either love it or hate it ) Because I have gotten similar responses from all the other places I have shown my music. Thorolf: What you define as "Jazz" might not be the same as my definition of Jazz. To me, Jazz is any tonal language that keeps the freedom of improvisation, whereas to you it might be something entirely different Ron: Glad you enjoyed it, I always appreciate your comments and reviews ![]()

Re: Classical Jazz - Lydia I'm glad you enjoyed reading my criticism ![]() Funny how Thorolf and I have opposite opinions: Last time he liked your piece while I didn't, and now it's the other way around. ![]()
