Twilight Mutations

This is a wildly virtuosic, atonal variations and fugue (or fugal...) guitar piece based on The Twilight Zone. It and my other guitar pieces can be found at www.johnoster.net/compositions.htm

I have the scores and MIDI files on the site.

I wish the realplayer progress bar had a timer on it so I could comment on specific moments.

Is this based on samples? If not, you really are an accomplished player, there are no string squeaks and I reckon people like Brouwer would be given a run for his money. Even something like Ponce's Theme and Variation is a doddle compared to this but as you're evidently a guitarist, it's a seriously accomplished work. Atonal it might but it coheres and balances well, pegs my interest the whole time because of its virtuosity and form.

Some experience, listening to it.
My only comment is that more could be made of the dynamics. Otherwise a good composition and frighteningly difficult. However, I see you've annotated the score enough to help people along (and made one or two moments easier than I first thought...)

Thank you very much. At first I planned to add a lot of dynamics, but then I decided to let the player do what felt right. I may go back and add more. I've also added only a few fingerings--a person capable of playing this should be able to figure out appropriate fingerings.

Indeed, those are samples...I can't play the piece! Well, not up to tempo! I can play it enough to know that it's not completely impossible...just "frighteningly difficult" as you say!

Re: Twilight Mutations

Pretty cool piece. The only comment I can offer is that you might want a little more contrasting in the tempos. Most of the piece is fast. Maybe add a few slow variations? Great piece though!

Re: Twilight Mutations

Thank you. I've considered extending it, and a few more slow variations would be good. On the other hand, the driving energy as is works as intended!
