A Rich Just resuscitating a project started on Eurostar a while ago... setting a few of Rich's 21 love poems from "A Dream of a Comon Language." Piano and soprano. I've finished No 1. Having some trouble getting the right degree of sleeze into the music. Now on No 2 - gentler. Anyone else heard of this poetess? Last edited by reith : 28-03-2007 at 10:03 PM.

Unfortunately, her work isn't easy (quite aside from it's impossible to enhance what she has to say with music). She writes without metre or feet and nothing rhymes anyway. I'm working in the way Thorolf might appreciate - just do it! But I have to intervene to avoid it getting like a recitative. I mean, that's ok if the material suggests it but the lack of metre doesn't automatically mean recitative. And this is another reason why I avoid notation software... I'll divide it into bars when done (just doing that with #1). Hope to post it soon. The voice will be represented by a clarinet at this stage. Last edited by reith : 28-03-2007 at 11:11 PM.

Re: A Rich No. I don't anticipate problems. If public performance incurs licensing / royalty payments I presume she has an agency to collect them as do I. I struck up a dialogue with Ms Rich some time ago regarding a related issue. Currently awaiting a reply about this issue and feel reasonably confident of getting permission for education and non-profit (though I suspect anything more might hinge on the result). It would be useful to get a provisional "yes" before I do much more work. cheers. Last edited by reith : 08-05-2007 at 11:35 AM.
