Buddha's Lost Children

Dear Friends

If you go to this website:

http://www.buddhaslostchildren.com/index2.html

you'll hear the main theme I composed for the documentary "Buddha's Lost Children" which just won the best documentary award at the AFI and some other awards in Rome and Amsterdam. Pretty much the entire score of the film is derived from the slow 17-note cantus firmus you hear at the beginning. I'd post the mp3 myself, but their version is better mixed than my copy.

Best

Very nice - as you say an excellent production. What I like about it is the economical texture - never too heavy - to me that meant it laid back a little but then if it was meant to accompany the film that would seem about right.

Beautiful and poignant.

Re: Buddha's Lost Children

I suppose I'm just a little envious that you have that wonderful film along with your music. - That's a comment I omitted to make, the music and film blend together so well.
Apart from a couple of small promotional things, I haven't had much luck because I've worked with an independent outfit a little closer to amateur than professional (in terms of finance) but I hope the day will come to present a sequence or two with music. I'm diffident about posting/presenting "film" music without some kind of visual support because it carries only part of the meaning. The film plus music is greater than the sum of the two, if that makes sense.

However, congratulations for your part in this superb work. Please leave the link so I can have another watch.

cheers.

Re: Buddha's Lost Children

Dear Reith,
I've certainly done my share of those low-budget horrors. Indeed, maybe I'll post a few.... I haven't seen the movie yet as it is not yet out in the part of the world ... I'm waiting for the Dutch to send me a DVD. After leaving Hollywood, I didn't do any movie soundtracks for years before being asked to do this film ... I've been completely absorbed in setting up the opera company.

Re: Buddha's Lost Children

Thanks for sharing Somtow, the music is very nice and well written. It would be interesting to see some of the music with the film to see how you've presented the mood and atmosphere.

How did you get such a commission/job? At the moment I'm working on my first film scoring project and finding it very much enjoyable. When its finished I'll try get permission to post some of it on here.

I don't know what anyone else can say other than how beautiful and enjoyable the music is. Very nice, indeed. On a side note, I would love to see this film.
