Film Overture

I'd just thought I would post a film style piece of mine that I have been working on.

This is for a college project and my brief was to create music that would be suitable for film, so I created a sort of overture for a film. In a way its suppose to be quite cliche as it follows most of the basic principles of film themes and writing.

I've spent alot of time creating the recording so I hope all sounds good at your end (The recording it quite quiet so turn up your volume )

Total time: 7:20 mins

Enjoy!

Re: Film Overture

Bravo!!! You certainly have the right feel in this piece! And it sounds almost real, so that's 11/10 Is it going to be in a certain film or just a piece to get you going?

Thanks Ron!

This one is just an exercise for a college examination, my other piece was a theme a variations. I'm currently working on score for a film due to be finished late august. I'll post some music as it gets finalised

Re: Film Overture

Very nice composition! The beginning is light and at ease, but then there's a sort of stormy phase. I think the quick and repetitive, sort of ta-ta-ta-ta things in some lines (I'm perfectly sober ) create a nice touch and add to the storminess. The situations change quite a lot, but I think that's typical of film-music. This piece may be a bit too long to fit into a movie as is, but the point probably was to only excercise movie techniques, which I think this piece does nicely. Overall, I think this is very movie-like.

The production side is quite successful in my opinion. It doesn't sound 100% real in all places, but that's very difficult to achieve with virtual instruments. The production of this piece is close to some other pro's midi mockups that I've heard around the internet, so it's not bad at all.

Good job!

Re: Film Overture

Nice. I liked the orchestration a lot. Strangely, I was just perusing Tony Thomas' book "Film Score" along with Christopher Palmer's "The Composer in Hollywood."

Re: Film Overture

Very nice Maestro! When you say it follows "basic principles of film themes and writing", what were those parameters?

Also, were you given a specific structure for the piece? i.e. incorporate 3 main themes, a combination of live action and titles?

Great stuff !

@crimson

Thanks for your compliments . The recording took the best part of 3 days to compete using over 40 stereo audio tracks in the final render, its no way perfect but does the job!

I was given no structure or general brief on the composition so it was very open.

Re: Film Overture

Sure an excellent composition - makes a nice overture by itself. Is this on your new mainframe? Certainly sounds as if it can handle a lot of simultaneous events. Very nice balance in the orchestral parts/excellent tutti writing. Nice samples. I see now what you mean about one keeping it in the digital domain. For the most part it could pass off as a live recording.

Congratulations.
What did college say about it?

bests,
reith.

Re: Film Overture

This was created on my other PC I use. I haven't quite setup my "mainframe" for sound production and composing yet.

My college teachers said they expect it to get a high mark I'll see in August when I get my results how high

Thanks for listening

Re: Film Overture

You need to just go away, this is too good for my liking! I chose to specialise in performance for my A'level, and I'm glad I did with this sort of competition around!
